One of my favorite parts about being a wedding content creator is that no two weekends ever look the same. One weekend I’m capturing a wedding in the Carolinas. The next, I’m boarding a plane with my passport in hand, headed somewhere completely new to document a destination wedding weekend.
Back in April, that place was Mexico.
I flew into Cancun before making the drive south toward Tulum, where my couple had invited their closest family and friends to spend several days celebrating together at TRS Yucatán. My shuttle service to the resort was upgraded, which made the drive time cut in half since I had a private shuttle, instead of the shared one originally that would’ve had 8 stops before me. Fun fact, you can bring margaritas to go with you when you’re leaving the Cancun airport!
Looking back, it’s still one of my favorite destination weddings I’ve ever had the opportunity to be part of.
When I originally quoted my couple travel for this wedding, I booked my accommodations based on the resort name my couple had given me. What I didn’t realize until I arrived was that the property is made up of several different resorts, each offering its own experience.
I checked into the Grand Palladium, dropped my bags in my room and spent some time walking around the property. It was beautiful, but something wasn’t adding up.
For the last few days, I’d been watching all of the photos and videos my couple had been sharing before I arrived. Every pool looked different. Every restaurant looked more elevated. Everything felt…luxurious.
I remember thinking, Where in the world are they?
So I started walking.
Eventually I wandered over to TRS Yucatán, the adults only luxury property on the same resort grounds, and within about thirty seconds I knew exactly where they’d been staying.
It was stunning.

The architecture immediately caught my attention. Beautiful natural stone, warm wood accents, oversized mirrors, lush tropical landscaping and one of the prettiest three tier infinity pools I’ve ever seen.
I walked straight to the front desk and asked if there happened to be any upgrades available. Fully expecting the answer to be way outside my budget, I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask.
When they told me I could upgrade my entire stay for $400 total, I don’t think I’ve ever handed someone my credit card faster. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I made that entire trip.
My couple never asked me to upgrade. They didn’t pay for it. They probably would’ve never known if I had stayed where I originally booked.
But I wanted to experience the wedding weekend the same way they were experiencing it.
Being on the same property meant I was never far away when something spontaneous happened. If everyone decided to meet by the pool, grab lunch together between events or watch the sunset before dinner, I was already there.
Those moments may not be part of the official wedding timeline, but they’re absolutely part of the story.
As a wedding content creator, those are often the memories couples end up cherishing the most.
One of my favorite parts of destination weddings is getting to experience places I probably never would’ve discovered otherwise. TRS Yucatán completely changed my stay.
My room overlooked the tropical grounds and somehow felt modern while still embracing the beauty of Mexico. There was natural stone throughout, warm wood finishes, oversized mirrors, a gorgeous soaking tub and one of the most comfortable hotel beds I’ve ever slept in. It felt like my room was out of a Restoration Hardware ad.
Every villa also came with its own dedicated butler, something I’d never experienced before.
If I needed transportation across the property before dinner, I could send a quick WhatsApp message and someone would be there within minutes. They made restaurant reservations, coordinated transportation and even brought me Advil one evening after a long wedding day when a headache started creeping in.
It’s little things like that which make hospitality feel memorable.
When I wasn’t working, you’d usually find me relaxing by the infinity pool with a skinny margarita topped with Tajín, enjoying the ocean breeze and reminding myself that this somehow counted as work.

One of the things I love most about destination weddings is that they aren’t just one day. They’re an entire experience.
Instead of rushing through a single wedding day, everyone gets several days together, and by the time the ceremony arrives, guests feel less like strangers and more like family.
The weekend began with an all white welcome party right on the beach.
As the sun started to set, everyone gathered barefoot in the sand with cocktails in hand while the DJ kept the music going all evening. Since the groom is actually a DJ himself, I knew music was going to be a huge part of the weekend, and every event felt intentionally planned around creating an incredible guest experience.
The following evening had a completely different feel.
Bright pinks, oranges and purples. Disco balls hanging overhead. A live mariachi band making its way through the crowd. An incredible view overlooking the pools and the Caribbean Sea.
It felt colorful, festive and perfectly suited for a celebration in Mexico.
Every event had its own personality, yet the entire weekend flowed together beautifully.

The wedding itself was every bit as beautiful as the days leading up to it.
The couple exchanged vows during their first look, said “I Do” inside the chapel on the property before everyone made their way to cocktail hour overlooking the ocean.
One of my favorite moments from the entire weekend happened just after the ceremony during cocktail hour. The couple walked along the pathway between the Caribbean Sea and the natural saltwater pool, completely wrapped up in each other while her veil caught the ocean breeze.
Nothing was overly posed. Nothing felt forced.
It was just one of those quiet moments where you almost forget anyone else is around.
Those always end up being my favorite. And it was BEAUTIFUL.
Later that evening, everyone gathered for the reception, and the dance floor quickly turned into one giant party. The couple had flown in a DJ from New York and, without exaggerating, he was one of the best wedding DJs I’ve ever heard.
I’ve been to a lot of weddings, and it’s rare to see a dance floor stay that full all night long. The energy never slowed down.
From the civil ceremony video they played during their grand entrance to the packed dance floor at the end of the night, every detail felt intentional.
Destination weddings have a rhythm that’s completely different from traditional weddings.
There’s time to slow down.
Time to have breakfast together before everyone gets ready.
Time to laugh over margaritas by the pool.
Time to meet grandparents, siblings, college roommates and childhood friends before the wedding day even begins.
By the time the ceremony arrives, everyone feels connected.
As a wedding content creator, I think that’s what makes destination weddings so special.
I’m not just documenting one event.
I’m documenting an entire experience.
The welcome hugs.
The late night conversations.
The poolside afternoons.
The sunset cocktails.
The excitement before each event.
Those are often the moments couples tell me they come back to again and again because they’re the moments that would’ve otherwise gone undocumented.
I still think about this wedding weekend all the time.
The incredible couple.
The warmth of every guest.
The ocean views.
The music.
The margaritas.
The hospitality at TRS Yucatán.
Everything came together to create a weekend that felt relaxed, joyful and unforgettable.

One of my favorite parts of this career is that every wedding introduces me to a new place through someone else’s story.
This one just happened to be in Mexico.
Next month it will actually be Italy. And I can not wait!
The month after that, who knows.
Wherever it is, I feel incredibly lucky that this job allows me to document not only beautiful celebrations, but also the destinations that become part of those memories.
If you’re planning a destination wedding in Mexico or anywhere around the world, we’d be honored to help preserve every part of the experience, from the welcome party to the farewell hugs and everything in between.
